About SJAC
Founded in 2012, The Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting meaningful justice for Syria that holds perpetrators accountable and addresses the grievances of victims, leading to lasting peace and respect for human rights.
Position Summary
Through a capacity-building project, SJAC supports Syrian human rights organizations focused on documentation and advocacy. SJAC provides financial support as well as capacity building across a wide range of skills. Under the supervision of the SJAC Legal Director, the gender expert will provide support in the development of gender-responsive activities based on the project components and direct partners’ needs, composed of the following elements:
General Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop a gender policy for a subgrantee (i.e. victim group) based on a pre-conducted needs assessment, conduct a briefing and presentation of the strategy for the victim group’s leadership.
2. Develop a policy for Preventing Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) for a victim’s group.
3. Conduct trainings for each victim group’s staff on gender strategies and the PSEAH policies.
Skills and Experience
Postgraduate university degree or equivalent with relevant work experience in development studies, social sciences, gender studies or equivalent
- Strong writing and communication skills
- A minimum of five years’ experience in social development and gender analysis
- Professional fluency in written and spoken Arabic
- Specific experience and expertise on gender analysis, gender mainstreaming and women’s participation
- Knowledge and understanding as well as experience of working in the Syria/Middle Eastern context is essential
- Demonstrated experience in the use of qualitative research methods (FG, interviews etc.)
- Experience in projects, programs or research related to the human rights and justice sector (desirable)
