Badael is a rights-based organization founded in 2013 with a mission to foster transformative justice as the basis of a genuine and sustainable peace in Syria. Championing locally owned alternatives, we endeavor to buttress the scope and impact of inclusive grassroots civic action and foment the development of holistic truth and understanding within and around the Syrian context. Our approach combines direct assistance and capacity building efforts with bottom-up narrative-shaping initiatives, including research, oral history and advocacy, so that all Syrians are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to construct a pluralistic and rights-based society of tomorrow.
Roles and responsibilities:
As an expert in civic education and youth engagement, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing dynamic think spaces aimed at fostering critical thinking, open dialogue, and innovative problem-solving among the youth of Syria. Your responsibilities will include;
Designing think spaces: Develop creative and inclusive spaces that encourage active participation, collaboration, and exploration of various civic topics. The spaces will be adaptable and designed to accommodate a variety of engagement formats.
Think papers production: Lead the development of think papers that capture the insights, ideas, and solutions generated within each think space. These papers will serve as valuable resources for guiding policy discussions and community actions.
Coaching and guidance: Provide mentorship and coaching to a team of enthusiastic individuals who will be responsible for implementing/ facilitating the think spaces. Offer guidance on facilitation techniques, content development, and effective communication strategies.
Youth engagement: Create an atmosphere that appeals to a diverse range of youth, ensuring that the think spaces are engaging, interactive, and relevant to their lives. Foster an environment where youth feel empowered to express their opinions and contribute meaningfully.
Implementation leadership: Work closely with select team members to oversee the execution of each think space. Offer hands-on guidance to ensure the spaces are delivered smoothly and effectively.
Deliverables and timeline : ( Aug- Dec 2023)
- Design of 5 think spaces.
- Support the team implementing the spaces including training and coaching.
- Production of 5 think papers.
Qualifications:
- Proven expertise in civic education, youth engagement, and innovative learning methodologies.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to produce thoughtful and impactful think papers.
- Experience in designing and facilitating interactive and innovative spaces and discussions.
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills.
- Excellent knowledge with the socio-political context of Syria and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by its youth
