General Description of the Programme:
GOAL has worked in Syria since 2013, providing food aid, basic needs and nutrition assistance, piped potable water, shelter support, and emergency relief for conflict-affected host and displaced communities. With several field offices in Idleb Governorate and an office in Azaz District in Northern Aleppo, GOAL currently reaches more than 1.3 million people with humanitarian assistance across Northwest Syria.
In addition to more than 800 field-based staff members who deliver aid and support inside Syria, a team of around 100 national and international personnel manage GOAL Syria’s programmes from offices in Turkey and Jordan, with technical and administrative guidance from GOAL’s Head Office and global advisors.
Job Purpose:
The GOAL Syria Senior Communications and Media Officer is responsible for ensuring that GOAL’s programmes and operations in Northwest Syria are supported with high-quality programme communication, visibility, and corporate information and knowledge tools and products under the supervision of the GOAL Syria Communications and Media Manager. The role also contributes to GOAL Syria’s internal communications initiatives and supports the Communications and Media Department’s internal and external coordination efforts.
Duties, objectives, and competencies
Duties
Programme Communications (50%)
- Co-lead the planning, execution, and assessment of GOAL’s programme communications and outreach activities in Northwest Syria in cooperation with the GOAL Syria Accountability Department, including by conceptualizing and designing print material of various scales – such as banners, fliers, brochures, etc.
- Support the management of GOAL Syria’s existing and new digital Communication with Communities platforms – including the GOAL Syria Programme Information Channel on Telegram – through directing art and overseeing content management.
- Oversee GOAL’s implementing partners’ programme information products and support their capacity development in visual communication.
Corporate Information and Knowledge Management (25%)
- Design corporate information and knowledge products focusing on GOAL’s humanitarian programmes and activities in Syria – including info-sheets, brochures, etc. and impact summary or research products targeted at specific internal or external audiences or the general public.
Internal Communications (20%)
- Contribute to GOAL Syria’s internal communications initiatives, including by conceptualizing and designing newsletters, e-mail message templates, and in-office print material of various scales.
Coordination (5%)
- Help oversee the Communications and Media Department’s work-plan and undertake departmental coordination and administrative initiatives as needed.

- GOAL Syria’s programme communications, visibility, and corporate information activities, products, and tools are diversified and strengthened.
- GOAL Syria Communications and Media Department’s intra-departmental and inter-departmental coordination processes are streamlined.
Competencies
- Organization skills, including the ability and willingness to take part in the management and execution of defined and new intra- and inter-departmental work processes within an international environment.
- Coordination skills, including the ability to prioritize and deprioritize tasks in a context of competing requests.
- Representation and partnership skills, including the ability to act tactfully in business encounters and in external relations.
Requirements (essential)
- Citizen of Jordan.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Visual Communication, Design, or Arts discipline – including Mass Communications, Media, Public Relations, Communications and Design, Cinema and TV, Graphic Design, Multimedia, or closely similar.
- At least 2 years of experience in a relevant field of work or similar role/s.
- Experience in collecting, collating, and organizing complex information gathered from multiple sources to produce accessible visual communications tools and products.
- Formal training and hands-on experience in art direction, including in leading on layout and typography for large-scale display items and for print and/or interactive information products.
- Good editorial and content management skills, including in drafting colloquial as well as formal copy in Arabic.
- Fluent oral and written English and Arabic.
Requirements (desired)
- Experience in audio-visual pre-production, production, or post-production
- Experience in a humanitarian or development agency.
