Preamble:
Founded in 1991, Secours Islamique France (SIF) is an International Non-Governmental Organization devoted to international solidarity, and social and humanitarian causes in the fields of humanitarian assistance and development aid, both in France and around the world. SIF started its operations in the Kenya/Somalia mission in 2012 and it implements programmes in Education and Child Protection; Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL); Water, Hygiene & Sanitation (WASH); and Shelter and Settlements. In April 2021, SIF initiated a Child Protection and Education Project in Mukuru Informal Settlement, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kwa Reuben, and Viwandani areas in Nairobi, Kenya. This project is dedicated to supporting the education and welfare of vulnerable orphaned boys and girls, as well as their families with an aim of promoting their fundamental rights (Education and Protection). SIF has previously operated in the Informal Settlement through implementing a Youth Empowerment Project in different informal settlements of Nairobi, such as Kibera, Mathare, Korogocho, and Mukuru Kwa Reuben, in collaboration with a local organization.
Objectives
The objective(s) of the assignment are as follows;
- Provide life skills education (e.g., problem solving, communication, decision-making) to children for responsible and empowered development.
- Sensitize children about their rights.
- Conduct positive parenting sessions for guardians to empower them to be proactive and involved in their children’s lives.
- Identify children with protection concerns and provide timely and appropriate support.
Offer opportunities for children and guardians to relax and have fun alongside learning and psychosocial support activities.
Scope
The consultant will be responsible for conducting a training program during the holiday camp, which includes the following tasks:
- Develop Training Curriculum: Create a detailed training curriculum covering life skills education, psychosocial support, positive parenting, and child protection. The curriculum should be age-appropriate, engaging, and culturally sensitive.
- Training Delivery: Lead training sessions during the outdoor activities scheduled on August 20th in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, August 22nd in Mukuru Kwa Reuben, and August 23rd in Mukuru Viwandani. These sessions should be interactive, participatory, and tailored to meet the needs of both children and their guardians. The training should also have enough facilitators to engage the different age cohorts.
Reporting: Provide a comprehensive report summarizing the training sessions, including assessment findings, recommendations, and any identified protection concerns. The report should also evaluate the overall effectiveness of the holiday camp.
Expected Deliverables
- Training Curriculum: Develop a detailed training curriculum; including session plans, learning materials, and assessment tools.
- Activity Planning: Assist in planning the outdoor activity and appropriate equipment.
- Training Sessions: Conduct interactive and engaging training sessions during the one-day outdoor activity on the 20th , 22nd , and 23rd of August in the 3-implementation areas, targeting 350 children and their 252 guardians.
Report: Submit a comprehensive report summarizing the training sessions, assessment findings, recommendations, and identified protection concerns. Include an evaluation of the overall effectiveness of the holiday camp.
Criteria for Selection

Strong background in child protection, education, psychosocial support, and positive parenting.

Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training programs for vulnerable children and their families

Familiarity with the Kenyan context, particularly informal settlements in Nairobi.

Knowledge of child rights and protection frameworks.

Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.

Training Sessions: 20th , 22nd , and 23rd August 2024 in Mukuru Informal Settlement. Report Submission: 9th September 2024
Budget
The consultant should provide a detailed budget proposal, outlining the estimated costs for their services, including any required materials, and consultancy fees. The budget should be submitted along with the proposal.

All information pertaining to Secours Islamique France that the Consultant may come into come with in the performance of his/her duties under the assignment shall remain the property of Secours Islamique France and shall not be shared with third parties without prior consent from Secours Islamique France. All necessary tools, equipment and materials required for the training shall be provided by the Consultant. Secours Islamique France shall bear no liability for any damage to the Consultant’s equipment or personal injury experienced during the assignment.
