What We Do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Security Officer advises the delegation/site on security risk assessment and associated mitigating measures while ensuring proper diffusion and access to information related to security in line with Duty of Care obligations.

Accountabilities & Functional Responsibilities

  • Supports compilation of security related data/information and its source/origin on a regular or ad hoc basis with the necessary discretion and accuracy.
  • Reports and documents security-related events within his/her work remit.
  • Supports analysis of the overall security situation and advises management on the potential risks to the ICRC staff, operations and reputation.
  • Contributes to risk analysis exercises undertaken by the delegation and feeds into a site’s database of security incidents, threats end trends.
  • Monitors the effective implementation of security procedures and processes. Provides basic security briefing and training as required. Helps raise staff awareness (on context specific) security and safety awareness sessions (across the Area of Responsibility).
  • Gives technical feedback to management on the effective functioning of the security management system.
  • Supports management in assessing the safety of locations used by the delegation (office, residences, hotels, trainings sites, etc.).
  • Advises management on implication in case of non-compliance to security rules. Supports management in dealing with possible (judicial) investigations into security or safety incidents.
  • Supervises Security Guards Supervisors (or security guards where noSecurity Guards Supervisor exists) and supports other staff holding basic security tasks (radio room).
  • Develops basic external network with actors relevant for the good execution of his/her function with (police and other law enforcing agencies, private security companies.

Certifications / Education Required

  • University degree or security & safety management background

Professional Experience Required

  • 2 – 4 years’ experience in a similar field of activity
  • Experience in crisis management an asset, possible background in military, police or emergency services.

What We Offer

  • Salary Package: 1’570 – 2’213 USD/Month (As per ICRC salary scale, salary setting processes will determine fair setting in coherence with the qualifications of the applicant and the requirements of the job).
  • 13th Month of salary paid in December, pro rata basis in accordance with the period worked.
  • Annual Leave: 20 calendar working days of paid leave per year, pro rata basis in accordance with the period worked.
  • Health Insurance: 90% of premium fees under class B, coverage include: Doctor visits, Medicines, Therapy services, etc.
  • International Retirement Saving Plan (IRSP): a contribution valued at 11.5% of your monthly salary, these savings are paid by the end of service as a lump sum.
  • Other benefits subject to internal rules and regulations: High Cost of Living Allowance (HCLA), Schooling allowance, eyeglasses, designated personal training budget for learning opportunities.

  • Working Schedule: Monday till Friday, from 8 Am till 5 Pm.
  • Type of contract: Fixed Term, December 31, 2025 (Renewable based on performance and need for position).
