POSITION SUMMARY
Career Pathway Connections (CPC), an initiative from LA Promise Fund (LAPF) dedicated to strengthening the network of South Los Angeles area high schools, the local Community college, and the business sector to ensure that more local students are exposed to, prepared for, and pursue jobs in the fields of Digital Media, Architecture and Engineering, Healthcare, Business & Finance, and Construction with the mission to revitalize South LA and beyond.
This position will work with students from Westbrook Academy, South Los Angeles high schools, and students in Los Angeles County. The Associate Director will work under the leadership of the Director of Career Pathway Connections to run The Intern Project, lead career readiness workshops and field trips, and be an ongoing coach for students in internship placements during the summer and afterschool fall and spring cohorts. Additionally, this position will oversee the social media for The Intern Project in partnership with the Career Pathway Connections manager. This is a full time, exempt position.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Lead personal and professional development workshops (e.g., resume building, leadership, financial literacy, social media skills, etc.) for high school students in person and/or remotely (via webinars)
- Develop work-based learning activities
- Track and organize all applications and paperwork with students, applicants, LATTC, and business partners – including submissions, contracts, K-12 forms, work permits, and more
- Oversee social media posts
- Oversee short videos for CPC and The Intern Project
- Lead Career Skills workshops & events by creating worksheets, slide decks, calendaring, attending events & workshops
- Work with school staff and students on Dual Enrollment recruitment and paperwork support and follow up as it pertains to Coop-Ed
- School, student, and alumni outreach for opportunities through Career Pathway Connections, GirlsBuild, The Intern Project and beyond
- Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts
- Assist with the recruitment, communication and planning for student facing sessions for The Intern Project for after school, summer, and school-year programming
- Support in-person internships during specific dates in July and August
- Curate and promote best practice strategies and plans for ongoing communications with students and educators to promote awareness and enrollment
- In collaboration with the Director create short- and long-term planning and management for events
- Create Social Impact reports for partners following summer internships
- Help build positive relationships with internal and external parties – schools, students, volunteers, partners
- Collect and manage data as it relates to grant mandates and strategic plans to share the success of The Intern Project
- Troubleshoot areas of challenge that emerge between the college and high school or at either respective site
- Work with K-12, community college and business partners to coordinate relevant field trips for students
- Support as an additional point of contact on each campus to ensure all goals are being met
- Other duties as assigned
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Degree in marketing/communications, business, education, STEM or other related field
- At least 2 year experience working with students or within schools, preferably within K-12 Los Angeles schools
- Ability to assist in the coordination of a program
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Skills
- An understanding of K-12 education, adult learning, and/or STEM
- Fluent computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and online communications (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom)
- Familiarity with website maintenance and social media platforms
- Soft Skills
- Enjoys student and teacher engagement; not shy about engaging in conversation with strangers
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community
- Resourceful, detail-oriented, able to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively
- Self-starter with a knack for problem-solving, networking, creating new relationships and opportunities
- Entrepreneurial: a hard worker with a high energy level, action-oriented, and solution-oriented
- Strong organizational, administrative, and project management skills
- A strong collaborator, good listener and strategist; comfortable receiving input from many sources, and able to analyze and formulate disparate information into a sound, well-organized plan
- Ability to work with and understand the needs of public and charter school teachers
- A flexible and adaptive individual willing to learn new systems and approaches as technology and platforms change

- Must clear a LiveScan criminal background check
- Must clear a TB Risk Assessment
- Must complete Mandated Reporter training
