The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking an Associate, Supply Chain Development-Improving Consumption of Animal Source Foods (ASF) who will support in implementation of last mile supply chain development. This role will be offered on a full-time permanent basis, subject to availability of funding and will be based in Nampula, Mozambique.

About the role

Improving consumption of Animal Source Foods(ASF) project, aims to improve diet quality by increasing consumption of animal source foods of 1,1 million bottom of pyramid consumers in Beira and Nacala corridors by supporting its desirability, affordability and accessibility in urban, peri-urban and rural areas. Specifically, the project will (a) deliver a demand generation campaign, (b) support development of last mile distribution system and (c) support policy enabling environment for sustainable impact of the interventions.

Reporting to the ASF Senior Project Manager, the Supply Chain Development Associate, in close collaboration with the ASF project team will provide support in implementation of last mile supply chain development. The Associate will work closely with suppliers and aggregators linking them to last mile retailers while ensuring communication and coordination within the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities include.

  • Provide support in the implementation of last mile supply chain development component of the project (including cold chain and retail development).
  • Provide technical input for strengthening co-ordination and communication within a sustainable supply chain.
  • In collaboration with consultant, support with coordination and implementation of training programs to strengthen ASF last mile supply chain.
  • Participate in identifying and prioritizing capacity development activities for strengthening last mile delivery to low-income communities all the way from the aggregation points, sub-aggregation up to retail level.
  • Work with ASF suppliers and aggregators to link them to last mile retailers.
  • Identify and collate the context specific information at national, macro and micro levels relevant for facilitating services or conditions for promoting distribution of affordable animal sourced foods in rural and peri-urban areas.
  • Assess and select the supply chain members for selected and emerging intervention areas.

About you

The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in Supply Chain Development especially working with suppliers, wholesalers, and retailers with ability to coordinate logistics and communication between stakeholders. Experience in food logistics and Cold chain distribution is preferred. The candidate should be proactive and able to work with minimal supervision.

The post holder should demonstrate ability to engage persuasively with various stakeholders from suppliers to last mile vendors. They should have clear and systematic thinking that demonstrates good judgment, expert problem solving, and creativity. Ability to generate reports and coordination of training programs that strengthen ASF last mile supply chain.

You should have an understanding of the distribution landscape in Nampula and ability to identify new business opportunities and generate new leads and contacts for the ASF suppliers, aggregators, distributors and retailers. Candidate should have an education background in supply chain management or other relevant fields.

About our offer

The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from USD 20,520 – USD 23,483 per annum, depending on experience. Other benefits are as attached below the job description.
