The Opportunity

The Child Protection Officer will be based in Gaziantep but will cover Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman and near districts supporting Save the Children’s Türkiye Office Earthquake Emergency Response aiming to support host and refugees communities in the region. The Child Protection Officer will conduct and help manage the relevant project activities, support project planning, and work with the Child Protection project manager, CP technical specialist to support project implementation. This role will be responsible for, where relevant, building the technical capacity of partner staff and ensuring quality and timely delivery of the Child Protection activities. The Child Protection Officer will assist the Project Manager with the start up, implementation, and monitoring of child protection activities through SC reponse and, where possible, a partner, including: psychosocial support services, individual support to vulnerable children, legal counselling activities, referral to child protection services, training of partner facilitators, and building awareness on child protection issues.

In order to be succesfull you will bring/have:

  • A degree in social sciences, psychology, sociology, community development or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in child protection programmes, psychosocial support, social work and community mobilisation
  • Previous experience in working with children
  • Good technical understanding of child protection and community based approaches
  • Knowledge of Child Rights, Child Protection Minimum Standards and other international recognised tools
  • Experience in working through a partner organization in a complex stakeholder environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong ability to take initiative
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Excellent team player
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
  • Fluent in Turkish and English – written and spoken
  • Computer literacy including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel

Desirable:

  • Fluent in spoken Arabic
  • Experience in working with NGOs
  • Experience in working with refugees

Position holder will be based in Gaziantep, therefore legal right to work in Turkey is necessary at the time of application.
