About the position:
The Director of Climate and Disaster Resilience (CDR) will oversee the technical direction of CDR across the organization. The focus will be on leading the growing CDR portfolio, which is focused on building capacity of health centers, advancing the technical quality of Americares’s existing CDR portfolio of projects, serving as a resource across the organization for CDR initiatives and as the CDR spokesperson for Americares. The impact of this role will be to ensure evidence-based standards and international best practices for CDR are integrated across Americares work supporting frontline health centers.
Key Outcomes:
In the first 90 days, the Director will:
- Develop familiarity with the CDR portfolio.
- Build relationships with the various internal and external partners.
- Contribute technically to the advancement of existing projects.
In the first 6 months, the Director will:
- Provide strategic direction to the advancement of the CDR portfolio.
- Closely liaise with the development department for upcoming CDR funding opportunities.
- Support the marketing and communications needs of the CDR portfolio.
In the first year, the Director will:
- Ensure CDR Portfolio has a documented strategic plan, an operational structure, clear avenues for advancement and growth in response to global trends in climate and health.
- Ensure CDR Portfolio existing projects are on target with deliverables.
- Develop relationships across Americares Programs team members and with external CDR partners
- Ensure High-quality CDR contributions to new funding opportunities, abstracts and media events on behalf of Americares.
- Ensure a CDR community of practice is established and operational.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Spearhead the global CDR portfolio advancing Americares position as a thought leader in the CDR space internationally with a focus on CDR for frontline health centers.
- Lead human-centered project design, technical implementation, and evaluation of CDR projects within the existing portfolio and for new funding opportunities which arise.
- Lead the development of a CDR strategy across the organization with explicit consideration for evolving evidence on the effects of climate on human health, beyond immediate disasters and the feasibility of expanding interventions and deepening programming that advances health center resilience to mitigate climate related risks.
- Serve as the CDR spokesperson for Americares representing the organization for media and at external events.
- Advance the role of CDR efforts to ensure the resilience of Americares owned and operated clinics.
- Build and support the management of a new Community of Practice in CDR.
- Work cross-functionally with various Americares departments and external donors.
- Collaborate with Monitoring and Evaluation, Technical Advisor and regional and country programs teams.
- Perform a range of senior managerial functions including but not limited to contributing to annual operational plan development, team budgeting, biweekly technical unit leadership meetings, and staff performance evaluations.

We’d love to hear from you if…
- You have technical expertise in climate change with a health focus, demonstrated via an academic degree in climate and health, research background, and/or climate-specific DRR or adaptation work experience.
- You are skilled at working (10+) in global public health internationally and/or nationally with non-governmental organizations and health clinics.
- You have the ability to work cross-functionally- engaging with multiple stakeholders and multiple teams and collaborative.
- You have expertise in project cycle management and contribution to funding proposal development.
- You have the ability to set up processes and initiatives.
- You have language skills in at least one of our core languages, other than English: Spanish, Tagalog, Hindi, Kiswahili, Haitian Creole (this would be a plus, but is not a requirement)
- You have US work authorization (required)
