Educator- Skills Development Officer.

About the job

Under the overall supervision of the Education/Integration Manager and with the technical guidance from Urban/Integration Coordinator, the Educator- Skills Development Officer will support the implementation of Skills Development and Employability activities and services for migrant and refugee adults accommodated in Open Accommodation site(s) in North Greece. The Educator- Skills Development Officer will ensure that all Skills Development activities are high quality and in line with PoCs’ needs.

The main responsibilities include:

Implementation and design of Skills Development activities:

• Conduct Greek and English language courses, cultural orientation and other soft skills development activities and support with the delivery of vocational training by external providers.

• Create targeted and customized curricula that target and address the skills development, lifelong learning and employability support needs of adult PoC on sites.

• Plan and implement effective group management practices to develop independent learners’ ability to work collaboratively with others.

• Collaborate with DRC Employability Support Officer and other staff members to design and implement relevant Skills Development and Employability activities.

• Form class groups and develop schedules in line with the needs of site population and in agreement with the Education/Integration Manager

• Complete daily lesson plans, develop and distribute differentiated learning material based on educational level and the individual needs of PoC.

• Contribute to data collection tools, market and labor market assessments and mapping reports.

• Promote empathy, compassion and respect for the gender, ethnic, religious, cultural, and learning of PoC.

• Support in the identification of partnership and referral opportunities with/to local private vocational training providers based on the profile of PoC.

• Support the integration of adapted approaches to respond to barriers to women and youth’s inclusion in the labor market.

• In collaboration with DRC Greece’s Protection team, facilitate inclusive access of asylum seekers to services provided by local authorities for all necessary administrative processes.

• Map and provide information to PoCs on available learning opportunities (both on-site and offsite), liaise with municipalities’ lifelong learning centers, and other non-formal and formal education structures and assist PoC with all the necessary processes to access them, including the issuance of administrative documents.

• Identify beneficiaries with good teaching skills and support them in organizing peer learning groups, non-formal learning activities and community-based teaching initiatives.

• Organize meaningful activities aiming to restore resilience and promote self-reliance and accountability.

• Collaborate with Education/Integration Manager, Employability Support Officer and other staff members to identify new partnerships with the private sector for the provision of training and Work- Based Learning (WBL) opportunities.

Reporting and Education Information Management:

• Ensure that relevant project data and Means of Verification (e.g. attendance lists, registration forms, lesson plans) are accurately collected

• Monitor and record beneficiaries’ attendance and progression, noting any areas for concern to the Education/Integration Manager.

• Regularly monitor the progress of Skills Development & Employability activities against project plans and timelines.

Programme Development:

• Suggest improvements to DRC programming and ways of working, through identification and communication of challenges, gaps, recommendations for improvements and lessons learnt.

• In collaboration with the Skills Development & Employability team and the Education/Integration Manager contribute to the development and design of DRC’s Skills Development & Employability program and activities.

Accountability:

• In day-to-day tasks ensure relevant accountability to internal DRC and Donor policies

• Any other duties as may be assigned by the Education-Integration Manager and/or Area Manager relevant to the achievement of program’s objectives.

• Any other tasks assigned by the line manager in line with overall response in the area of deployment.

About you:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or in a related field is required

• At least 2 years of proofed professional experience in teaching Greek or English as a foreign language in group/class settings are required.

• Experience in Adults’ Education and/or Intercultural Education, in designing and facilitating skills development workshops and training sessions is required.

• Strong knowledge of Windows OS, use of internet and Microsoft Package (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required.

• Excellent verbal and written skills in English language are required

• Excellent verbal and written skills in Greek language are required

• Bachelor’s degree in Greek Language will be considered an asset.

• Certified training or courses on career/job counselling or livelihood planning will be considered an asset.

• Prior teaching experience with non-Greek speaking students will be considered an asset.

• Previous experience with local or international NGOs will be considered an asset.

• Knowledge and understanding of the refugee and migration issues in Greece, the systems, and processes in place to facilitate refugees’ access to services, education, health care, and social benefits will be considered an asset.

• Experience in teaching ICT will be considered an asset.

• Previous experience in implementation of economic recovery programe, including vocational training and work-based learning will be considered an asset.
