Founded in 2004, BME Strategies is a Massachusetts-based consulting firm specializing in providing Public Health design and implementation programming for local, regional and state governments.
Position Overview
The Epidemiologist will support a range of public health consulting projects by preparing and conducting needs assessments, collecting and analyzing data, monitoring and evaluating programming, and providing data-driven recommendations. This role involves collaboration with government agencies, healthcare organizations, and nonprofits to assess public health risks, design interventions, evaluate outcomes, and support community engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Design and implement needs assessments and analyze collected data.
- Analyze epidemiological data to evaluate the magnitude and distribution of health problems.
- Interpret complex data sets to identify health trends, patterns, and risk factors.
- Utilize data visualization tools to present findings to diverse audiences (i.e. the community, governing board, local and state agencies)
- Public Health Research:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest public health research and best practices.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in epidemiology, offering guidance and technical expertise to clients and BME Strategies’ team members on public health projects.
- Synthesize findings from different studies/data sets to inform recommendations for public health interventions.
- Use data to inform proposal development.
- Program Evaluation:
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of public health programs, policies, and interventions.
- Provide clients with actionable insights and recommendations based on evaluation outcomes.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and briefings tailored to client needs.
- Collaboration and Project Management:
- Manage and oversee multiple projects/work streams simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to achieve project goals and objectives.
- Support the development of public health policies based on evidence from epidemiological studies and research to promote health equity and improve health outcomes.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s Degree.
- Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience using epidemiological methods in local public health.
- Proven experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, or Stata) and data visualization tools (i.e. Excel, R, PowerBI, Tableau).
- Experience using ArcGIS, QGIS, ESRI, or other mapping software is a plus.
- Previous experience working with government entities or in a consulting environment and familiarity with public health initiatives is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on public health issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex epidemiological findings to non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in project management, including managing timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Familiarity with public health laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines.
Working Conditions
- Remote work, with occasional travel to client sites, conferences, or meetings as required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Expected range is $75,000 – 90,000/annually
