POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance Officer will be responsible to support the corporate finance functions including accounting functions of payables, reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger and supporting the annual financial statements audit and the entity’s annual budget exercise. The position reports to the Finance Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for maintaining General Ledger including preparing and recording of day-to-day financial transactions.
  • Reviewing vendor invoices and payment requests and processing payments through checks and wire transfers
  • Review and process staff travel expense reimbursement reports
  • Preparing summary corporate credit card charges and allocating expenses to various cost centers in excel spreadsheets and record in Business Central (ERP General Ledger accounting system)
  • Preparing Bank Reconciliations for all AKF USA bank accounts on a monthly basis and record required entries in Business Central accounting system.
  • Calculate and book fixed assets deprecation and update fixed assets record on monthly basis.
  • Book monthly staff payroll disbursement and allocation entry in Business Central (General ledger accounting system).
  • Prepare General Journals and close month end in the accounting system on a timely basis.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts (assets and liabilities) on monthly basis.
  • Prepare and submit annual form 1099s / 1096 to IRS and vendors by statuary deadline.
  • Work closely with the Donor Services team to ensure reconciliation of donations, pledges and sponsorships by various fund codes in the General Ledger accounting system
  • Prepare budget versus actual fund-raising reports for the resource mobilization team
  • Reconcile petty cash as well as the imprest account on a monthly basis
  • Assist with data entry, filing as well as ad-hoc report preparation as requested by the management.
  • Assisting with the year-end Financial Audits by preparing various audit schedules as required and proving supporting documents to the auditors for the sample selections.
  • Assist with Statutory filings such as solicitation registration renewals with various states, USAID Annual Registration, etc.
  • Assist in developing AKF’s annual budget related to organization’s admin operating and fund-raising budget.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager and the Associate Director of Finance.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 years relevant experience preferably in the not for profit/charitable sector
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (including excellent Excel skills) and working knowledge of the accounting software. Knowledge of the database, reporting and working knowledge of MS Dynamics BC365 will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and real attention to detail
  • Able to work in a dynamic fast track environment and prioritize/ orchestrate multiple competing demands
  • Ability to work independently with minimal operational supervision

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • Salary range: $65 – $70k, based on experience and qualifications.
