Since 1978 ChildFund Deutschland is supporting disadvantaged and needy children, young people and families with an aim to improve their future perspectives. We initiate and accompany mostly development and transitional aid projects in more than 30 countries.

For building up and leading a focus area for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, ChildFund Deutschland is searching for a committed and experienced Project and Programme Manager.

We expect the successful candidate to start this engagement as soon as possible, ideally in November 2023. At this stage, the position will exclusively cover humanitarian help within Ukraine.

The long-term aim of this engagement is to expand its scope with developing humanitarian aid structures within ChildFund Deutschland in Ukraine.

Responsibilities:

Project / Programme Manager will be responsible for the following principal duties and obligations:

  • Developing, implementing and follow-up new humanitarian projects and programmes in the context of the war in Ukraine
  • Coordinating independently humanitarian aid projects and/or programmes
  • Coordinating the assigned projects, inputs from relevant consultants and partners, ensuring successful delivery of the project
  • Coordinating and providing input to needs assessments aimed at identifying priority project needs and drafts terms of reference for potential project proposals.
  • Providing technical and administrative assistance and training to the implementing partners, where relevant during project design and implementation.
  • Working with the implementing partners to identify and manage risks and ensure projects are delivered within required budgets, regularly briefing to the senior management.
  • Monitoring and evaluating project progress, coordinating with the M&E Officer and partners to provide quality assurance and input into project reporting.
  • Analysing Ukraine’s rapidly changing context on an ongoing basis to inform project design and delivery
  • Traveling on occasion within Ukraine to engage with staff, partners and stakeholders (subject to the security situation at the time).
  • Representing the humanitarian engagements of ChildFund Deutschland in Ukraine and international work clusters

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, the Employee must be able to perform each essential duty, obligation, and responsibility satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the required knowledge, skills and/or abilities needed to perform the principal duties.

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years demonstrated experience in project development and management
  • Strong organisational, management, and administrative skills, including report writing and monitoring and evaluation
  • Demonstrated analytical ability and understanding of humanitarian context
  • Proven knowledge of local and international NGOs and community-based organisations implementing relevant activities and projects in Ukraine, as well as key governmental actors and stakeholders
  • Experience working with local organisations, including government entities and civil society, preferred
  • Experience with institutional donors such as OCHA and UNICEF.
  • Fluent Ukrainian and English(B2) required, German is an asset
