The starting salary for this position is £59,352 (including £3,000 London Weighting).

The position is based in London, with minimum 3 days per week working in our office in Marylebone. Applicants must already have the right to live and work in the UK.

Background

The Institutional Partnership Adviser (IPA) will work at the NRC UK Representation Office which is part of the Partnerships and Policy Department (PnP). The role will be supervised by the Director of the UK Representation Office, with a technical reporting line to the Director of Institutional Partnerships in Oslo.

PnP is responsible for NRC’s strategic relations with institutional donors and is the “centre of excellence” on donor/partner relations in NRC, thereby providing support to all Departments, and Regional, Country and Representative Offices in the organisation.

Role and responsibilities

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

1. Responsibilities related to NRC’s strategic donors

Be the NRC focal point for expertise on UK institutional donors and their relations with NRC:

  • Be the lead for NRC’s strategic engagement with the donor, especially at Head Office (HO) level
  • Maintain NRC’s position as a professional and relevant partner, establish close relations and share information internally in NRC on their policies and priorities.
  • Advise NRC colleagues on communication lines with the donor, annual funding cycles, and best practice when it comes to resource mobilisation
  • Maintain an overview of NRC’s past and present engagement with the donor
  • Assist with setting up, preparing as well as participate in donor meetings

Assist with resource mobilisation:

  • Track and share information about new funding opportunities
  • Undertake “donor mappings” upon request from NRC Country Offices and departments
  • Be responsible for prequalification processes in order to access donor funding
  • Manage the processes related to prioritisation of internally competing proposals

Provide help-desk support and capacity build staff on fund raising and donor rules

  • Stay updated on donor conditions, rules and regulations. Ensure that key information about these is regularly updated and available to NRC staff in order to facilitate compliance
  • Provide advice on donor expectations and requirements in proposal and reports, proactively and on request
  • Provide advice on clauses in grant agreements, service contracts and consortia agreements
  • Document learning and good practice related to the individual donor

Network and advocate for improved financing conditions

  • Network, share information and undertake joint lobbying (vis-à-vis donors) with other NGOs that receive financial support from the same donor
  • Advocate for and negotiate improved conditions with the donor, whenever relevant

Liaise with other NRC units on donor related issues

  • Stay updated on NRC‘s priorities and funding needs
  • Ensure that NRC’s donor relations are adequately reflected in external communication

2. Responsibilities related to other (new/smaller) donors

In line with available capacity and as instructed by their line manager, the IPAs are responsible for the following tasks related to other donors:

  • Inform about NRC’s internal procedures for approving new donors
  • Assist with setting up, preparing as well as participate in donor meetings
  • Track and share information about relevant new funding opportunities
  • Develop an overview of donor rules and regulations
  • Manage the processes related to prioritisation of internally competing proposals
  • Assisting in reviewing grant agreements, service contracts and consortia agreements, if requested

3. Other responsibilities – Climate

In line with NRC’s Climate and Environment Strategy 2030, NRC is further developing programmatic approaches to adaptation and clean energy. In line with this, it is an objective for NRC to explore opportunities to grow climate finance as a funding stream.

This responsibility includes

  • Responsible for mapping climate related funding streams that match with NRC programmatic priorities in the UK and coordinate the mapping of climate funding globally with other Representation Offices.
  • Contribute to recommendations to NRC senior management on an organisational approach to climate funding.
  • Further climate responsibilities may also be developed

The Institutional Partnership Adviser is also responsible for maintaining NRC representation and contribution to the BOND network and other relevant NGO fora.

What you will bring:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 5 years of experience from a humanitarian/development organisation and/or from a donor administration, either at Head Office/capital or field/embassy level
  • Documented results in resource mobilisation, including with developing proposals and reports to government donors, UN or similar
  • A thorough understanding of Project Cycle Management, especially of the logical framework approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including negotiation skills
  • A conscientious and structured person with strong planning and administrative skills, including computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and preferably also Agresso)
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of FCDO, including strategic priorities, organisational setup and funding mechanisms, is a clear advantage.
  • Prior experience with both grants and commercial contracts is an advantage
  • Prior experience with climate funding mechanisms is an advantage
