Women for Women International

Purpose

Women for Women International works in some of the most dangerous places to be a woman. We serve women survivors of war in conflict and post-conflict areas around the world in 8 countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Eastern Congo, and Northern Nigeria. Our core belief is that stronger women build stronger nations; and with access to knowledge, resources, and a support network, a woman rebuilds her life and improves her community

Women for Women International has the ambition to significantly increase grant funding to support programming that has proven to be transformative for marginalized women survivors of war in fragile and conflict-affected countries.

As a member of the Global Business Development Team, the position supports WfWI’s global business development strategies related to proposal development and writing. This position will work and coordinate the proposal development process, writing 2/3 proposals per month (dependent on calls for proposals). Working closely with the program design team to ensure all proposal narrative includes strong content and the end result is a compelling project that is feasible and aligned with organizational priorities.

Engagement

Proposal Quality Management (10%):

  • Under the leadership of the Head of Global Program Funding Opportunities, support in developing and adopting processes and systems that improve proposal development efficiency and coordination and that position the organization for submitting timely quality proposals.
  • Under the leadership of the Head of Global Program Funding Opportunities and Director of Global Business Development, work closely with the Program Design and Development sub-team in streamlining content creation and resolving disconnects between donor requirements/interests WfWI capabilities/strategies.

Budget Support and Development (5%):

  • Liaise with colleagues in the development of coherent budgets, ensuring adherence to grantor criteria in relation to accepted costs, percentages, and format.

Delivery

Proposal Writing and Development – (70%):

  • Serve as lead coordinator and lead technical writer on select submissions. This involves working closely with other WfWI teams (program design, finance, monitoring and evaluation, country offices, etc.) and managing all aspects of the proposal development process from start to finish, ensuring that final narrative is of high-quality, applications are compelling and meet all donor requirements, and demonstrates WfWI buy-in and support.
  • When coordinating a proposal submission, manage technical writers, researchers, consultants where applicable, and anyone directly involved in the application to produce compelling and competitive proposals.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with technical specialists, subject-matter experts, and professional writers to contribute to technical solution designs, reviews, and analyses of proposals and business development strategies.
  • Work closely with the Program Design sub-team in selecting proposals, specifically focusing on ensuring that design ideas are clear and directly aligned with donor priorities and interests.
  • Ensure that relevant internal stakeholders contribute to proposal design and that relevant staff approve the final proposal when appropriate.

Programmatic Development (10%)

  • Work closely with Country Office staff and others to develop and maintain a good understanding of our existing programs, where we want to innovate and expand on those programs in the future, and where there have been challenges with implementation that we need to keep in mind for future program design efforts.
  • As needed/requested, develop strategy papers focused on different aspects of our work, such as a specific theme or country.

Local Partnership Development (5%)

  • Working closely with the Head of Program Funding Opportunities and Country Offices to build on existing and new relationships with local in-country partner organizations that we strategically align with for WfWI to partner with for consortium proposal opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 7-9 years of experience in fundraising, with extensive experience in writing technical proposals for an international NGO.
  • Experience working in cross-departmental, cross-country contexts.
  • Understanding of global humanitarian, development and gender funding environment and future trends.
  • Excellent spoken and written English including research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to and respect for Women for Women International’s mission and values
  • Computer skills include using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred.
