Reporting Lines
The National Database/Data Analyst will work under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Guyana and the SLDM Project Chief Technical Advisor (CTA)/ Project Manager, under the day-to-day supervision of the Senior Database Administrator of the Database Management Section, Information Systems Division (ISD) in GLSC. The incumbent will work in collaboration with GLSC and other SLDM and FAO team members, and under the overall technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer (LTO) and the concerned project task force members, as well as the PMU staff and GLSC Divisions.
Technical Focus
The incumbent will be based at the Head Office of GLSC, Georgetown, Guyana, in the Information Systems Division (ISD) during his/her work in the SLDM Project, and will be under the day-to-day supervision of the Senior Database Administrator, Database Management Section. He/she will ensure that data resources of the Commission are optimised and used to reliably support and effectively deliver the mandate of the ISD and the Organization as a whole. Day-to-day working relationships will include teamwork with the Manager, Seniors, and staff of the Database Management Section of the ISD and across the Commission.
Tasks And Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation of database support processes / procedures within the Commission, including for data management, performance tuning, maintenance, auditing, and database security for the purposes of ensuring the stability and performance of production databases and the availability of stored data.
- Prepare database documentation including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
- Support quality control / quality assurance of data in various digital databases / datasets of the Commission.
- Use data modelling techniques to analyze and specify data usages within databases to promote process improvements.
- Analyse data and use storytelling to visually present impactful information using dashboards, charts, and other types of business intelligence.
- Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing data management, storage, analysis, visualisation and/or optimisation products and tools.
- Design solutions to curate and migrate data from various types of data sources to create a unified data model for analytics and reporting.
- Prepare user manuals, train and orient relevant staff on proper usage, maintenance, and management of the databases.
- Perform research and development activities for continued innovation within data processing, data management and analytics.
- Collaborate with GIS teams to enhance database integration and functionality.
- Collaborate with Developers to create API endpoints.
- Undertake other related duties relative to functioning of the Database Management Section and ISD.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Sciences or related field.
- At least two (2) years of relevant experience in Database Administration /Management, Data Science, and any relating field.
- Working knowledge of English is required.
- National of Guyana.

Selection Criteria
- Experience, core knowledge and skills in:
- Competency in writing SQL
- Data cleansing / purging and migration skills.
- Competence in productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel
- Data analytics and visualisations
- Relevant and demonstrable experience working with databases (proprietary and/or open source)
- Desired /Advantageous Knowledge / Skills
Any one or combination of the following would be deemed an asset:
- Python
- Spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL + PostGIS)
- Business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, and others.)
- ArcGIS
- Linux
- Full stack development
- Experience in Full Stack Development
- Knowledge of LADM
