ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The EJN Mekong Program Associate will coordinate and provide administrative support for the Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) projects in the Mekong region. The Program Associate will work closely with the EJN’s Mekong team to implement activities for the assigned projects, including organizing webinars and journalist training workshops, arranging logistics, assisting in collecting monitoring & evaluation data, supporting social media campaigns, performing administrative tasks and any other assignments as needed by the Internews team.

ABOUT EARTH JOURNALISM NETWORK

Established n 204, the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is Internews’ flagship environmental program, which aims to improve the equality and quantity of environmental media reporting. It is both a media development program as well as a global environmental journalist network with a membership of more than 15 thousand members. EJN trains journalists to cover a wide variety of environmental issues, develops innovative digital media sites, establishes networks of environmental journalists in countries where they don’t exist, and builds the capacity of journalists through workshops, fellowship programs to major conferences, support for distribution, and story production.

LOGISTICS

Internews has offices in Bangkok, Thailand and Phnom Penh, Cambodia which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, and partially remote. Ultimately, this position may work remotely from Cambodia or Thailand, partially remote from the Phnom Penh or Bangkok offices, or fully in-office for candidates based near either office. Candidates must be based in either Thailand or Cambodia.

This is a limited-term position, with an anticipated duration of one year. This position may be extended, contingent upon the availability of funding.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Coordinate and carry out administrative tasks of EJN activities in the Mekong region, under the guidance of the EJN Mekong Coordinator and Program Officer.
  • Liaise with Internews’ EJN implementation partners on financial and grant administration in the Mekong region.
  • Collaborate with Internews’ regional office and the finance team in Bangkok on administrative tasks to facilitate program implementation.
  • Support in organizing logistics, supplies, and procurement needs for planned activities.
  • Support in processing payments to vendors and contractors in coordination with finance team members.
  • Assist the EJN’s Mekong team in communicating with the project’s participants and partners, as well as with the EJN and Internews’ teams at the Headquarters, regional, and country levels.
  • Participate in the judging and selection of journalists and other content providers for grant and fellowship opportunities.
  • Assist in timely collection and documentation of data and information from partners and other relevant stakeholders for monitoring and evaluation, outcome harvesting, and internal monthly updates as requested and in line with donor reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and update lists of grantees, fellows, and trainers including tracking their performance against expected deliverables and coordinating these lists with the EJN team.
  • Manage logistics for travel and meetings and procurement of visas as needed.
  • Manage administrative tasks according to set project timelines.
  • Any other assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Minimum two years of experience working in international development and/or media development in a programmatic or administrative capacity, preferably in the Mekong region.
  • Relevant university degree or equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the media in Mekong countries, preferably in environmental journalism.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English.
  • Fluency in one or more Mekong country languages.
  • Proven ability to set priorities and handle multiple ongoing assignments.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with different teams and stakeholders, as well as with senior management.
  • Experience in assisting with small grants management.
  • Experience in supporting social media campaigns is a plus.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team and work independently to complete tasks.
  • Flexibility to work outside of traditional business hours to coordinate with colleagues around the world.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the region. Travel is not expected to exceed 10% Level of Effort for this role.
