BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
Serving as a broker between WFP in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and the private sector, the Partnerships team at the Regional Office strives to mobilize funding, technical assistance, innovative solutions and visibility and awareness to help WFP fulfil its mission, while offering the public and companies the opportunity to create a world with zero hunger. WFP’s partnership and engagement strategy (2020- 2025) focuses on cooperation with the business sector, foundations, and individuals to drive towards zero hunger through three key pillars:
- Impact: partnerships that provide expertise and skills to support capacity strengthening for WFP and local governments.
- Income: investing in and growing fundraising.
- Innovation: identifying areas for innovation – particularly with businesses –uniquely able to drive change at scale in close alignment with the global strategy, RBP has developed a regional plan to support Country Offices in Latin America and the Caribbean to engage companies, foundations, and individuals to continue driving impact, income and innovation for WFP’s programmes in the region.
Pillar two of the new strategy is dedicated to generating Income for the organization through individual giving, corporates, and foundations. The consultant will be responsible for supporting the Head of Regional Private Sector Partnerships in the stewardship and growth of the private sector portfolio. The Consultant will help foster and expand the private sector partnerships (PSP) portfolio for WFP operations in LAC by strengthening our positioning with global partners and friends of WFP to increase resource mobilization. This includes working closely with WFP headquarters to position LAC with global partners. The consultant will also support the regional corporate fundraising strategy by proactively identifying target top prospects for WFP and developing successful approaches to secure new multi-year, multi-million corporate partners.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Portfolio Management:
- Support with the stewardship and expansion of the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) portfolio for WFP operations in LAC by creating engagement strategies that help position LAC needs with global partners and friends of WFP to increase resource mobilization.
- Develop tailored material that helps position the region, define our value proposition, and tailor messages in a context of competing global priorities to enhance our visibility with prospects and partners.
- Support WFP with external awareness events to drive new business: support events (such as conferences, forums, panels, and roundtables) convening multinational corporates to position WFP as a ‘go to’ organization for partnerships.
2. Knowledge Management and Country Office Guidance:
- Provide technical guidance and strategic support to thirteen country offices and sub-regions on business development, opportunity forecasting, and outreach strategies.
- Develop knowledge management hubs with corporate guidance material, training documents, and templates that support country offices engage with the private sector.
- Organize internal trainings that enhance private sector expertise at country office level.
- Provide technical recommendations, guidance and monitoring of risk management with the private sector.
3. Business Development:
- Working closely with HQ, help identify and prospect high value potential regional partners to secure financial support helping develop successful approaches for potential new partners including relationship and network mapping.
- Advance exploration of new models of resource mobilization (such as innovative finance, foundations, high net-worth individuals) that help diversify the private sector portfolio.
- Collaborate with internal teams to contribute to effective pitches that position WFP as a partner of choice.
- Support preparations for negotiations with new partners, brief the ‘pitch team’ and, where appropriate, participate in negotiations, secure contracts, and agree on partnership expectations.
4. General Private Sector Support:
- Maintain an efficient workflow with internal stakeholders to promote a successful and results-oriented work cycle.
- Develop internal briefs, presentations, and other documents for private sector engagement.
- Support Partnerships Private Sector team as needed.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
- Help grow the private sector portfolio by at least 10%.
- Develop knowledge management hub with tailored guidance material for private sector engagement.
- Organize trainings to enhance expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education
Advanced University degree in Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Political Sciences or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience
At least 3 years’ demonstrated experience in partnerships, account management and sales.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven track record of account management, nurturing and stewardship.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven track record of writing proposals and developing pitch decks.
- Ability in explaining complex issues to external partners, presenting the organization and diverse operations in a compelling manner, including when to leverage experience of internal stakeholders in a sales pitch; understanding of how to align the needs and interests of the organization with those of a corporate partner.
- The ideal candidate will have attention to detail, creative writing skills, strong organizational abilities, and results-based mindset.
- Good understanding or experience prospecting different channels for resource mobilization (foundations, innovative finance, or high net-worth individuals) a plus.
- Able to work in a multiple stakeholder environment with strong influencing skills.
Languages
Excellent command of spoken and written Spanish (fluency/level C knowledge) and English.
