Center for International Private Enterprise
The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) invites proposals that examine the role of dignity in economic development in emerging markets. Upholding its core values of respect, integrity, and excellence, CIPE seeks to integrate economic dignity into its efforts with partners to further strengthen democratic institutions and promote broad-based economic growth. Economic and political freedom are essential to creating universal opportunities for prosperity—and a democracy serves its citizens best when the rule of law, public participation in policymaking, and fair economic conditions are maintained. This principle underlies CIPE’s work with its partners through a rules-based system and democratic governance that fosters inclusive growth, enables entrepreneurship, opens trade, and combats corruption.
Applicants are invited to submit proposals for a guidebook that integrates dignity into CIPE’s programmatic efforts and its work with partners in emerging markets. The objective of this research will be twofold: a) layout a framework for CIPE to adopt dignity in economic development, democracy, and entrepreneurship programs; and b) outline practical steps for CIPE programmatic personnel to measure the viability and benefits of such a framework. While the final scope will depend on the selected proposal, CIPE encourages researchers to consider the following guiding questions in their submissions:
- How can an organization like CIPE integrate dignity into its programs to promote democratic governance and inclusive economic growth in emerging markets?
- What is the main advantage of adopting a dignity-based approach for CIPE given its mission and work at the intersection of democracy, private sector, and markets?
- How can CIPE assess and address the impact of its programs using the dignity-based model?
Review Process
CIPE will consider proposals on the above topic and judge them on the strength, originality and clarity of the proposed ideas. Proposals that do not respond directly to the above topics will not be considered. Full terms, including the final structure of the guidebook, deliverables, timeline and compensation schedule will be determined through an agreement between the selected researcher and CIPE, and specified in a contract or honorarium letter. CIPE will review the submitted materials and contact selected authors for an interview before awarding the contract.
