CPWR-The Center for Construction Research and Training

CPWR: The Center for Construction Research and Training (www.cpwr.com) is the non-profit 501(c)3 research, development and training arm of the North America’s Building Trades Unions, located in downtown Silver Spring, MD, conveniently located near Washington, DC with easy access to public transportation (including Metro and MARC) and public parking. CPWR partners with key federal, industry, academic, and workers’ organizations nationwide to reduce occupational injuries, illnesses and fatalities in the construction industry through multiple cooperative agreements from the federal government in support of its construction industry research, service, and training programs.

One of the main functions, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), is to serve as the National Construction Center to conduct and catalyze learning by leading researchers, and to help put research findings into practice. It also operates a highly respected Data Center to continually synthesize, analyze, and visualize population-level data, and conduct special studies from a large number of sources to highlight emerging hazards and track trends in the industry.

CPWR is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Data Center team. Candidates must be local to the area.

Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:

·  Preparing and analyzing large national datasets using SAS or R.

·    Summarizing and visualizing results in multiple formats including Data Dashboards, Data Bulletins, presentations, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.

·      Peer-reviewing other team member products before publication.

·       Responding to internal and external data requests.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of a master’s degree with a quantitative emphasis such as epidemiology, public health, statistics, demography, or another related field.

 · Preferred experience analyzing large national datasets, with a primary focus on quantitative analysis.

·      Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated experience communicating results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

·   Ability to work both independently and on a team on multiple projects at the same time and prioritize them accordingly to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner.

·      Proficient in using Microsoft Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and at least one of the following statistical packages (R, SAS, STATA).

·       Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Microsoft Power Bi) is preferred.

·       Public health training or experience is highly desirable, as is knowledge of occupational health or the construction industry, but not necessary for the right candidate with analytical skills who is willing to learn and engage on these topics.

Compensation Package:

Salary is based on qualifications and prior experience.
