Job Description

We are looking for a talented, versatile and digital-savvy journalist who is deeply experienced in business coverage to join the Asia team in Seoul. The Senior Editor will play a pivotal leadership role in the hub, part of our expanding, 24/7 newsroom.

The Senior Editor will oversee our Asia business coverage, helping to set the agenda, identify coverage opportunities, and coordinate across desks and time zones. You will work closely with the regional editors in the hub to drive finance, economics and technology coverage on their teams. As the point person for the coverage, you will also work in tandem with the top business editors in New York and San Francisco to set priorities.

The Seoul operation is continuing to evolve, and you will be a part of the change, infusing business into our broader coverage and breaking down the walls between departments. You will direct and edit a team of reporters in a specific region, across disciplines and desks – an approach that is core to our editing strategy in Seoul. Significant experience editing news and enterprise is a must. You must have the ability to identify, explain and execute stories for a broad audience – ensuring coverage is relevant locally, but also resonates globally.

Communication and collaboration are important, as is flexibility in a constantly changing and fast-paced news environment. While the hub oversees coverage for the Asia region, we also support the rest of The Times around the world. We do it all: international, business, sports, culture, politics – whatever lands in our time zone. As such, the Asia hub is a nimble, supportive crew, and we’re looking for an editor who can easily adapt, given our ever-changing array of stories and situations.

What You’ll Do

  • Edit live coverage, news, enterprise and investigations
  • Collaborate with regional editors to drive Asia business coverage
  • Work closely with the leadership of the business team
  • Oversee a team of reporters in a specific region
  • Help manage the news flow, from multiple bureaus and multiple departments

What You Should Have

  • Excellent news judgment
  • Deep understanding of business topics
  • Ability to explain complicated topics
  • A good digital sense with a knack for different types of storytelling
  • A collegial and collaborative attitude
  • The ability to multitask under deadline pressure
