Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Senior Officer to provide support to the Finance Division with forecasting, financial planning, internal reporting, and maintaining fiscal integrity. The FP&A Senior Officer reports to the FP&A Deputy Director who is based in Denver, CO, U.S.A..

The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities*:*

1. Maintain and update monthly financials for HRW divisions and departments using rolling, five-quarter expense, and multi-year revenue forecasts, as well as entity-specific and organization-wide financial reports;

2. Liaise between the FP&A team and key internal financial stakeholders, effectively communicating complex financial information to staff;

3. Manage financials and reports related to Development department, including ROIs, resource allocation, and fundraising metrics;

4. Assist FP&A leadership in establishing KPIs for all departments’ operations, including measuring and assessing progress against those metrics;

5. Support FP&A team in the development and maintenance of frameworks, analyses, and reporting used to assist with the implementation of HRW’s strategic plan;

6. Perform sophisticated analyses using financial modeling and data mining to provide guidance on long-term financial strategy, cost saving methodology, and revenue and expense forecasting;

7. Perform daily maintenance of organizational expense targets and forecasts, as needed;

8. Support management and reporting of grant financial reports to determine spend and create high-quality donor reports;

9. Develop and document processes and protocols helpful to the FP&A team to increase efficiencies, and redundancies and error;

10. Assist in assessing costs and available funding for personnel and consultant hires and extensions;

11. Model inclusive behavior and consistently adhere to HRW’s internal values; and

12. Perform additional tasks as required by the FP&A Deputy Director.

Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in finance, business administration or a related field is required.

Experience: A minimum of three years of direct finance experience is required. Prior experience working in nonprofit/NGO finance is highly desirable.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

1. Previous experience in and/or demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit finance and fund accounting is required.

2. Excellent computer knowledge, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and database systems is required.

3. Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated experience with financial reports, data analysis, and visualization tools, such as PowerBI is required.

4. Excellent time-management skills, and ability to prioritize tasks- while maintaining sharp attention to detail- are required.

5. Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team are required.

6. Excellent communication, creative problem-solving, and strong organization skills are required.

7. Effective oral and written communications skills in English are required.

8. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is necessary.

9. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.

10. Experience with NetSuite financial accounting system, Salesforce, and/or PBCS is preferred but not required.

11. Proven interest in human rights is desirable.
