ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Internews’ Safe Reporting and Media Freedom in Sri Lanka project seeks an experienced Program Manager to lead a project aimed at strengthening the capacity of journalists and independent actors to safely provide reliable information and counter disinformation. The Program Manager will report to the Country Representative.
LOGISTICS
Internews has a local office in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which supports a hybrid workforce with staff working fully in-office or partially remote. Ultimately, this position may work partially remote or fully in-office. Our preferred candidate is based in Sri Lanka and has independent work authorization in Sri Lanka that does not require sponsorship from Internews.
Wherever possible, we work to try to find solutions for international hiring that work for both the company and the candidate. This means that some of the particulars around the offer for a role will be dependent on several factors, and that the benefits and salary structure that apply to a position will ultimately be based upon the candidate’s location and where the role is hired.
Note: Hiring for this position is contingent upon receipt of funding.

DAY-TO DAY- TASKS will include:
- Lead the implementation of project activities.
- Work with Consultants/Trainers to manage trainings, seminars and workshops.
- Support strategic communications efforts of Internews to promote and publicize project activities.
- Liaises with relevant partners and attends external events on behalf of Internews.
- Provides updates and briefings on programs and maintains correspondence with partner networks.
- Ensure objectives are met in a timely fashion and recommend adjustments to activities as required.
- Develop and track monthly schedules and strategies.
- Support implementation of project assessments, surveys and M&E activities as needed.
- Draft reports to donor
- Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Fluency in English and at least one local language
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years programmatic experience including project management experience
- Solid understanding of the media and CSO sectors
- Experience with media and civil society projects
- Training experience and/or familiarity in safety practices a significant asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Report writing experience
- Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
- Proven analytical and problem-solving ability
