Job Summary

Laboratory technicians prepare under supervision of the laboratory chief, a science teacher, experiments and documents for classes and lab work; they may be asked to formulate and develop experiments and scientific equipment; they assist science teachers with lab experiments.

This position may be full-time or part-time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Preparation of practical experiments.
• Development of new experiments (i.e., computer-assisted experiments).
• Responsibility for stocking equipment and products.
• Class participation during some experiments (demonstrations for students).
• Participation in lab work sessions needing his/her technical expertise (i.e. experiments needing the use of the computer or other apparatus).
• Responsibility for various specialized lab facilities (maintenance, follow up and preparation of computer, photographic and physiological equipment).
• Tending to plant growth arid raising of animals.
• General organization of the laboratory operation (depending on various schedules).
• Coordination of the use of shared equipment.
• Scheduling of various lab spaces.
• Small equipment repairs and construction of some experimental devices.

Qualifications

• Certification from French Education Nationale, the United States State Government, or Canada.
