We have an opening for our Language Arts position, teaching one English section in Primary, Middle School, and High School. It also requires a portion of your schedule to be devoted to monitoring the horizontal and vertical alignment of our curriculum. If you enjoy organizing professional development for teachers, this position includes the opportunity to focus on areas that teachers are interested in as well as indicate a need to engage in deeper study for their growth. Our school year begins on January 6th, 20245 and runs through November 6th, 2025.

  • We are a NEASC accredited Nursery-12th grade school in Santa Lucia, Cotzumaguapa, Guatemala, Central America. We promote a bilingual, bi-cultural learning environment. We are one of two LAB school-based learning centers in Guatemala and have the freedom to utilize school-wide cutting-edge teaching and learning strategies.
  • Using student assessment data is important to us, since we work on research projects that help local public schools. We use MAP assessment to guide us with individual student learning levels. MAP is aligned with Khan Academy and NEWSELA platforms and provides an amazing collaboration overlap. (If you do not have experience with these platforms support is provided.)
  • New ideas and techniques are always welcomed. Teachers can use their creativity to adapt the curriculum to their style and be innovative with their teaching.

We are searching for professionals who have had some teaching experience and who are passionate about nurturing children. While in Guatemala, teachers have the opportunity to improve their Spanish skills or learn Spanish, as well as be exposed to the rich Mayan culture and tradition that surrounds the country.

Our learning environment includes a fresh and open environment, surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers. Students have the advantage of nature and the outdoors at their classroom doorsteps! (Classes are frequently held outdoors when we are on campus.)

  • The technology department is invested in creating a high-tech school environment. We have overhead projectors in each classroom as well as wi-fi across campus. There are two mobile computer and IPAD units for Early Childhood and Primary levels. (We have classroom headsets.) Middle and High schools are involved with the one-to-one program and also have the use of two labs equipped with iMacs.
  • We have embarked on integrating technology within the academic classes and strive to improve in this area. Tech support is school-wide and you can improve your tech skills by being mentored by one of our tech specialists if needed. We have 3-D printers which help to enhance our teaching strategies. We also have a large number of educational drones which are used in a special drone class. The tech team manages our fully equipped radio station which functions as a school-wide media outlet when we are on campus.

Our school is committed to community outreach and is involved with community public schools to provide academic support not only to students but to local teachers as well.

The qualifications for our Curriculum/ Language Arts position and involvement with school-related activities are the following:

  • a minimum of 1 or 2 years of classroom experience and proven skills in leadership, group facilitation, organization, writing, listening, and communication.
  • ability to work independently.
  • excellent communication skills.
  • a passion for student achievement, the conviction that all students will learn, and a high drive to meet the needs of every student.
  • understanding of U.S. education and curriculum development.
  • a strong advocate for students and teachers.
  • able to maintain updated vertical and horizontal school curriculum alignment.
  • ability to differentiate curriculum and instruction for diverse ability learners.
  • current in educational research through online research and literature.
  • support the use of a comprehensive assessment system to inform instruction and enrichment opportunities for students.
  • think outside of the box when planning Professional Development Days.
  • promote student voice school-wide.
  • engage in self-interest activities that indicate self-enrichment as well as that of your student’s
  • flexibility,
  • volunteer when necessary, to sponsor a school-related activity.
  • supporting teachers with curriculum ideas and mentoring
