Technical Advisor (Weapons Ammunition Management)

Roving Role: The postholder will be expected to be visiting MAG’s programmes for 60% of their working time or more. The postholder will be able to work from home when not deployed to a MAG programme. MAG will consider applications from candidates who are based in any country, globally, however the final decision on whether employment in a specific country location can be supported will be based on a compliance and budget check, and reviewed by MAG’s senior management. You should therefore clearly set out the country that you would wish to be based remotely in.

Starting salary for this position is £81,156 per annum (allowances as per the candidate information sheet)

About the role:

The Weapons Ammunition Management (WAM) Technical Advisor (TA) will support the Programmes Quality Team (PQT) to contribute towards the successful delivery of MAG’s Strategic Plan, with the aim of ensuring high levels of safety, quality, innovation and continual improvement in MAG’s operational implementation, and promote the sharing of expertise, learning and development inside MAG and within the mine action and Weapons and Ammunition Management sector.

Under the line management of the Senior Technical Advisor, The WAM TA shall undertake compliance assessments, focusing on operational delivery, safety, and efficiency. The WAM TA will also be required to, support programme development in new countries oversee accident investigations and reporting relating to WAM, deliver training and/or undertake mentoring, and recommend and develop technical notes and standard operating procedures. The role requires a willingness to travel extensively to operational locations and undertake assessment missions to new countries of operation.

About you:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of progressive responsibility in designing and managing WAM initiatives in multiple countries and operational contexts in senior management positions. They must have a minimum of IMAS EOD Level 3 or ATO qualified as well as qualifications and experience in conducting demining accident investigations. The role holder will also have field experience in all mainstream operational HMA approaches and methodologies, including SALW and ammunition. The successful candidate will have outstanding communication skills and the ability to build successful relationships both internally and externally at all levels. The ability to prioritise and manage a heavy workload under pressure is essential to this role.
