General context:
Global Rights Compliance (‘GRC’) is a niche organization made up of international lawyers and development experts focused on “democratizing” complex international human rights, and criminal and humanitarian law. Drawing on decades of experience in conflict-affected areas and transitional justice environments our “root and branch” philosophy combines innovative full-spectrum accountability strategies, building the capacity of States to implement international humanitarian and human rights standards, bespoke expertise in evidence gathering in conflict settings, and assisting communities to seek remedies for violations.
GRC is committed to enhancing compliance with international humanitarian law (‘IHL’), international criminal law (‘ICL’), and international human rights law (‘IHRL’) in fragile and conflict-affected states(‘FCAS’).
Specifics of the job:
Global Rights Compliance (GRC) is seeking a translator to join its Ukrainian team for the project titled “Strengthening Ukraine’s Capacity to Investigate and Prosecute International Crimes” for a period of three months, with the possibility of extension.
The focus of the consultancy is to translate legal memoranda, briefs, strategy papers, and handouts from English to Ukrainian and vice versa. A translator may be requested to assist the team members during the meetings and training providing consecutive interpretation.
The main goals of the project are to enhance the capacity of the Ukrainian stakeholders to integrate international law standards in efforts to deal with international crimes; and to improve the enabling environment to support the use of international law standards and stakeholder involvement as tools to improve the investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of international crimes.
Duty station: The job will be home-based.
Contract duration: Three months contract with a possible extension.
Qualifications and Background:
- At least two years of experience in translating written briefs and documents from English to Ukrainian and vice versa;
- University education/ degree in interpretation or translation is an advantage
- Experience in legal translation and knowledge of legal terminology are assets;
- Respect for confidentiality;
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
