The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. We are an international development organisation owned and governed by our 26 country and territory members. In pursuit of sustainable development to benefit Pacific people, our organisation works across more than 20 sectors. We are known for our knowledge and innovation in such areas as fisheries science, public health surveillance, geoscience, and conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.

The Operations and Management Directorate (OMD) provides corporate services to all SPC divisions and programmes. It consists of three key teams: Finance, Human Resources and Information Services. OMD is focused on improving the effectiveness of systems, policies and management to provide high-quality customer-oriented services.

The Human Resources Intern will support the Suva Human Resources team in the following areas: general administration support; reception duties; file management and HR project support.

The key responsibilities of the role include the following:

General Administration Support

  • Undertake supervised office administration tasks such as – Drafting routine letters from available templates; Providing administrative support during HR meetings; Ensuring HR official correspondence/documents received, delivered and collected are logged; Assist with providing Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) administrative support; Log received, delivered and collected MOFA documents.

Reception Duties

  • Meet and greet visitors to the HR office.
  • Attending to staff and referring queries.
  • Ensure proper upkeep and cleanliness of reception and office areas.
  • Collection, recording and distribution of HR office mail.

File Management

  • Undertake supervised file management tasks such as – Assist in maintaining HR employee records on shared network; Documents filing and retrieval during internal/external audit; Organising staff files and HR documents online; Photocopying and scanning including Shredding of confidential documentations.

HR Project Support

  • Support the HR Manager or nominee on HR projects and assignments as and when requested.

Key selection criteria

Applicants must be either:

  • an individual who has graduated from their undergraduate or postgraduate degree in human resources, administration or relevant area of study within the previous 12 months who wishes to acquire work experience in line with their studies; or
  • a university student who is required to gain work experience to earn scholar credits or to satisfy requirements for either an undergraduate or master’s programme of study in human resources, administration or relevant area of study.

Salary, terms and conditions

Required starting date – As soon as possible.

Allowance – FJD $20 to $40 per day.

Duration – There is one full-time internship available for 6 months. The duration of the internship will depend upon the tertiary institution’s course requirement for a work experience attachment and not exceeding 6 months.

Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm.
