Job Purpose

Reporting to the Senior IT Officer, the IT Assistant is responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of the computer systems and other technologies such as communication and network systems for IFRC Turkey. An IT assistant’s duties include configuring hardware and software, installing peripherals such as printers, access points or routers, repairing equipment and providing daily support for computer network users, working as a helpdesk, and monitoring inventory. Assistants may work to answer calls and emails related to computer networking or communication systems. They may also be responsible for writing reports and evaluating new technologies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The position holder shall:

  • Install and configure software and computer systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with software or hardware.
  • Provide a Service Desk function on IT and telecom incidents and service requests; resolve or escalate the calls in the most efficient manner.
  • Provide support and incident/service request resolution for the Turkey Office, including installation, maintenance and repair telecommunications and computer equipment.
  • Advocate and implement the Federation standards and procedures in IT and telecom.
  • Maintain procedures and reports that provide technical support to the entire organization.
  • Analyze records and logs to spot underlying trends and potential issues.
  • Support the implementation of new solutions or applications.
  • Establish accounts for new users and assist with password or login problems.
  • Test, evaluate, and make decisions about new technology for the business.
  • Undertake any other duties as requested by the line manager.

Education

Required:

  • Recognized professional qualification in the area of engineering, telecommunications, electronics, computer science or equivalent technology work
  • University degree, in Engineering, computer sciences discipline or equivalent work experience

Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of 1 years of work in computer systems (LAN, WAN TCP/IP connectivity, E-mail, application and user support domains)
  • Experience in providing training and facilitating workshops
  • Experience in stock and inventory management

Preferred:

  • 1 year minimum of work in radio communication technologies (VHF, HF) and satellites (VSAT)
  • Minimum of 1 years work experience with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement or with other international organisations, large NGOs and/or governmental development agencies
  • Experience working in a change management situation, preferably as an active participant in that change

  • Expertise with systems and applications such as: Network components, e-mail systems, Client/Server systems, ISPs & IP connectivity, applications, hardware (Current are predominately Microsoft, HP, Dell and Cisco based)
  • Excellent skills in wireless technologies
  • Demonstrated track record in innovating, contributing to a learning culture, sharing knowledge and new approaches to engaging partners

  • High degree of discretion, tact and sensitivity in dealing with internal and external clients and stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to work within a multi-cultural, multilingual, multidisciplinary environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Fluently spoken and written English
  • Good command of Turkish

Preferred:

  • Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish, Arabic or Russian)
