Background:

Stichting Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to prevent child exploitation, to remove children from exploitative situations and to ensure that these children can continue their development in a safe environment. Terre des Hommes focuses on sexual exploitation of children, the worst forms of child labour, child trafficking and migration, sexual and reproductive health and rights and on child protection in humanitarian crises. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and East Africa. In Asia, Terre des Hommes Netherlands works in Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, India,and Nepal.

project ‘Community-Based Child Protection Mechanism for the Children of Garment Workers in Bangladesh which will be implemented in Mirpur under Dhaka North City Corporation and Sadar Upazilla under Gazipur district in partnership with Breaking The Silence (BTS) and Village Education Resource Center ( VERC).

The Goal of the project is “Community-based response and support mechanisms are in place to protect and promote the rights of the children of garment workers in Bangladesh.

The outcomes of the project are 1) Children are equipped to advocate for and claim their rights . Children and young people of the Child protection Forum members will be trained to monitor and report cases of violence and advocate for the rights of the children.

2) Families and communities are proactive and responsive in providing adequate care and support to the children and responding to their needs. They will positively influence in monitoring and reporting of violence cases against children

  1. Government, CSOs, private sectors and other relevant stakeholders are responsive in strengthening the Child Protection System and responding to the needs of the children of RMG workers. The project will protect children from harm, and improve access to social safety nets and relevant public and private services.

General Characteristics

Projects are initiated in response to organisational policy for specific areas of attention. Activities within projects may include research, informing, (organisational) development, campaigns and collaboration.

The main objective of this position is for the successful implementation of the project Community-Based Child Protection Mechanism ( CB-CPM) for the Children of Garment Workers in Bangladesh based on the project proposal, the result framework following the agreement guidelines and policies of Terre des Hommes Netherlands and its donors including Government of Bangladesh.

Objectives of the function:

The Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating a project in accordance with the preselected goal(s) with regard to lead time, budget and quality.

To achieve the goal, objectives and outcomes of the project( CB-CPM), the Project Coordinator will ensure coordination among the partners, relevant stakeholders at local and national level, civil societies, media, employers and relevant government agencies, efficient management and successful implementation of the project. Activities within projects may include research, information, (organisation) development, campaigns and collaboration. Project teams are composed of various parts of the organisation and/or by third parties.

Location: This is a national position based in Dhaka and will require field visits to the project areas at Mirpur under Dhaka North City Corporation and Sadar Upazilla under Gazipur district.

Position in the organization:

The Project Coordinator is subject to hierarchical leadership from the Manager and gives (functional) leadership within projects.

The Project Coordinator will be directly reportable to the Programme Co-ordinator, PME and Fundraising at TdH-NL Bangladesh Country Office.

  • Guide and support the partners for the effective implementation of the planned activities, monitor and review the targets and results.
  • Update the TdH-NL management on the challenges in the field operation and seek prompt actions for making decisions for the effective implementation of the project. Share the progress findings, challenges and way forward with the team and the senior management
  • Ensure the implementation of the project activities, on time, on budget and scope, track the progress and give timely feedback and follow up actions.
  • Ensure collection of reports from the field, compile them and prepare reports as required by Terre des Hommes in PRIMAS, donors and Government of Bangladesh.
  • Give inputs in developing project documents, such as, communications and training materials, reports and presentations etc.
  • Provide budget management support to the partners
  • Train the staff on thematic areas of the project Child Protection Mechanism,Child rights programming and children and youth empowerment.

Required Background ( Education, Knowledge and Experience)

Education: Masters degree preferably in social science/ development studies/ any relevant areas related to children development.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum ten years of experience working with NGOs in implementing and managing projects in the development field.
  • High level vocational or academic (university) education at bachelor level (NL: HBO/WO, Bachelor)
  • High level applied or academic thought and working ability
  • Knowledge of procedures and guidelines relating to the work environment and relevant networks.
  • Knowledge in the field of project management.
  • Knowledge of and insight in the target group and developments in society.
  • Skills in writing concrete project work plans and performs these tasks independently/seeks efficient assistance required to complete this task.
  • Hands-on experience of project cycle management includes managing budget, monitoring outputs.
  • Excellent leadership and negotiation quality, experience of coordinating multi-partners projects and facilitating workshops and training programme.
  • Excellent presentation & report writing skills.
  • Knowledge and prior work experience on child rights and children development, children and youth group development and capture learning.
  • Appropriate IT and computer skills is a must to cope organisational work requirements.
  • Language Skills: Excellent proficiency in English is most desirable.
