This role will support unaccompanied and separated children and families vulnerable to separation. SARD will provide its specialized and unspecialized protection services which specifically target sensitive child protection issues such as family separation, early child marriage, child labor and recruitment to military services. Through its emergency centers/ Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) in A’zaz, critical life-saving protection services including shelter, emergency and accelerated learning support and PSS, and foster placement will be provided. Outside the centers, through its referral system in coordination with the Protection cluster, SARD’s Mobile Case Management team will identify child protection cases and renders or refers specialized and unspecialized protection services.

The project aims to provide multi-sectoral integrated response to the UASC in the emergency shelter and alternative care with focusing on to place the UASC in foster families. Foster families and other families vulnerable to child separation are accompanied throughout the project with the provision of dedicated services to favor family placement and prevent family separation

The action it’s based on the following pillar :

  • provision of protection services to children and foster families or families vulnerable to separation,
  • Parenting program: SARD facilitates a parenting program to train caregivers on Child Protection, PSS, and dealing with their children’s behavior.

The position reports to the Head of Programs (HoP) and his advisors. Technical support is provided S/he will also work closely with the Head of Support, finance, and logistics coordinators on program funding and donor compliance.

In NW Syria, working closely with the SARD teams and counterparts under the supervision of the HoP and his advisors the incumbent will coordinate and supervise the protection teams and ensure implementation of the, he/she will be responsible for:

  • Provide guidance and expertise for the case identification, registration, and referral of unaccompanied and separated boys and girls.
  • Provide guidance and expertise for the provision of child protection services to unaccompanied and separated boys and girls
  • Provide guidance and expertise for the provision of case management and foster placement for unaccompanied and separated boys and girls
  • Provide guidance and expertise for the provision of PSS activities
  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation for the programs according to project guidelines, including collating data from the Government, other training centers, and other organizations (the incumbent will be attending the sessions of and coordinating with the cluster);
  • Support SARD teams in maintaining relationships with community representatives, community groups, government counterparts, and other humanitarian agencies, ensuring transparency and coordination;
  • Take primary responsibility for liaising with Admin, Finance, and Logistics staff for organizing and planning the vocational training program; support other programs as needed;
  • The Protection Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project’s budget. He/she will authorize expenditures according SARD procedures making sure that these are concurring with the original budget and to the plan and will in charge of the financial forecast for the activities under his/her supervision.
  • In coordination with and in support of the M&E department, gather monitoring information evaluate impact, collect lessons learned and conduct data entry on collected project data in a timely manner and assist in maintaining the database.
  • Beneficiary information and activity profiles, and prepare internal reports updating on activities (in English);
  • Ensure that activities conducted by the supervised team follow SARD standards and guidelines;
  • Promote a safe and secure work environment; foster a culture of safety and security awareness and consistently follow the SARD code of conduct, safety and security policies, and directives;
  • In coordination with the HoP and Programs advisor update the SARD SoPs for Protection activities; and
  • Perform any other tasks as instructed by the supervisor

Required Qualifications, Experience & Competencies:

  • BA in Social Work, IHL/Protection, International Relations, Gender & Conflict, or another relevant field;
  • Solid experience in program management, including at least 3 years implementing Child protection prevention and response programs
  • Experience in case management is essential
  • In-depth understanding of the root causes of protection concerns, related international standards, and child protection prevention and response strategies.
  • Strong people management skills: the ability to effectively lead and supervise staff;
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Fluency in English; ability to communicate in Arabic ; Turkish is a plus;
  • Solid organizational skills: the ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced and detail-oriented team environment;
  • Experience working in difficult locations; ability to be resourceful and flexible in a limited resource environment.
  • Good computer skills: excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email/internet software.
  • In possession of Turkish ID
