To achieve that vision, UOSSM USA provides, in collaboration with its strategic partners, impartial lifesaving support, medical relief and access to quality healthcare and mental health services to people affected by crisis through its impactful and cost-effective programs. UOSSM USA currently supports Mental Health and Protection (MH&P) services in Turkey and is looking forward to expanding its impact in MH&P to the underserved people in Jordan, Syrian refugees, and other refugees affected by crisis.

BRIEF POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Protection/ PSS officer is a member of UOSSM USA Jordan team and will be responsible for conducting protection assessments and monitoring, program design and development, training, providing psychosocial support and case management to beneficiaries in target locations in Jordan.

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

R1. Protection Monitoring

Actively identify protection concerns of the persons of concern and respond to them in an effective and timely manner.

Use appropriate tools and formats for documenting and referring protection interventions, including PAs (Protection Assessments).

Maintain in-depth knowledge of referral pathways and eligibility criteria to services related to mental health, legal protection issues such as registration, documentation, civil status, SGBV and Child Protection and any other basic and most common protection concerns.

R2. Case Management and documentation.

Provide psychosocial support to persons of concern.

Facilitate appropriate referrals for persons of concern

Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all phases of person’s management and documentation

Conduct individual and group counseling sessions

Conduct Focus Group Discussion (FGDs) on different psychosocial issues relevant to the community.

Actively participate in Community awareness creation sessions involving all circle of influence, leaders, women, men, boy and girls.

R4. Data Management

Maintain an up-to-date data system for all activities conducted:

Ensure all individual sessions conducted for all cases are recorded in the person’s intake books and forms daily.

Work in the designing, planning, implementing, and facilitating of external trainings for various target groups.

Ensure all field activities are recorded in the field activity form and placed in the file.

Ensure that the numbers reached are clearly indicated in a weekly data form.

R5. Report Writing

Prepare daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, progress notes, and treatment plans on time.

Use appropriate data collection tools and submit assessments and reports in a timely and accurate manner

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of the Protection/ PSS program, including its activities, sector meetings, and indicators measuring the progress of the program.

R6. Referral and Networking

Track & Maintain records of persons’ referrals

Follow up on all referred persons to ensure they are provided with the assistance needed.

Have thorough knowledge of the services provided by all agencies nearby the work sites in Jordan to facilitate faster and appropriate referral for the persons of concern.

Attend and actively participate and contribute to the protection working group meetings, partner and donor meetings, and other relevant meetings, as the Protection officer representative of UOSSM USA.

R7: Guide program design and development, including Psychosocial Support (PSS), Child Protection (CP), Special Needs Rehabilitation (SNR), and Gender Based Violence (GBV), to achieve outcomes by incorporating the best available evidence.

Design, assess and evaluate community and center-based protection programs

Select responsive interventions based on the best available evidence, local context, and gender analysis

Develop the logical framework, including process and outcomes indicators, for protection projects, and support project delivery

Develop quality control processes for the protection programs, including appropriate methodologies in data collection techniques for assessment, monitoring, and evaluation

Review and assess technical protection strategies, interventions, and activities, and ensure best practices

Assist in proposal development, i.e., writing technical narratives, input on budgets required for project delivery, review of technical quality of proposals, including review of technical protection strategies, interventions, and activities

Support the protection program and project reporting

R8: Conducting training of target persons and staff development.

R9. Perform any other duties that may be assigned to you by your supervisor

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Position coordinates locally with the Jordan office team, and reports directly the Program Manager in Amman. The position will also coordinate technically with the Program Director, located in the USA, and MHPSS technical Coordinator in Turkey.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: University degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, or related field is required.

Nationality: Jordanian

Work Experience Requirements (Mandatory):

3 years or more of work experience, in managerial/coordination positions with NGOs in humanitarian, emergency, or post-conflict settings in MHPSS and/or Protection.

Protection/ PSS technical tools and materials development, and monitoring & evaluation.

Protection/ PSS strategy development and working across sectors.

Conducting training of target persons and staff development.

Developing treatment plans, conducting individual and group counselling sessions, and awareness sessions.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

Demonstrated expertise in project design, proposal development, and monitoring and evaluation, with the ability to turn concepts and strategy into measurable action and collaborating with donors and partners.

Ability to work with remote, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.

Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills and ability to facilitate collaboration.

Outstanding capacity to understand the country context, portfolio, and overall programmatic needs.

Ability to transfer technical knowledge and skills.

Demonstrated commitment to develop and implement programs with best practices.

Other Skills: Proficiency in the use of Microsoft word and excel software, at minimum. Ability to work under pressure. Problem-solving skills. Conflict- resolution skills.

Language Skills: Fluency and proficiency in speaking and writing in both Arabic and English (required) and writing professional program reports and proposals in English.

Working Environment: primarily on site, and potentially remotely; based on needs and circumstances (i.e., Amman office, program centers, working group, etc.).

Working Hours: Working hours are from 8:30am to 4pm (may vary based on meetings and work conditions), Sunday to Thursday.

SALARY: $1500 USD / Month
